Parents Information- Pre-School

Well-being

We strive to create a safe, nurturing environment, where all children feel valued and their autonomy is celebrated. Using a key person approach, children are assigned a member of staff to support them as they settle in, building a trusting relationship. We believe that when young children's well-being is strong, they are well prepared to access the curriculum on offer fully, allowing them to thrive and learn happily.

Early Years Framework

At Sunflowers Pre-School we follow the Early Years Framework as part of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. This informs our teaching and policies. For more details on this follow this link....

Planning

We believe in child-led play and that the children will be learning and developing at the highest level when they are highly engaged in activities they are interested in. The environment is set up to allow the children to explore and investigate at their level and in their own time with highly skilled staff supporting and extending their experiences. Our planning is created with each cohort's interests in mind, whilst ensuring all children have access to new experiences within seasonal themes, creating a stimulating, exciting environment for them to learn in.

Tapestry

We use an online learning journal which you will receive observations of your child through. We also encourage you to send some back to us in the same way so that we can create a complete picture of your child and their journey. Below is a link to Tapestry log in....

Parent resources

Introduction...

We value parents as a child's first educator and safeguarder of their wellbeing. We provide resources and support to help parents stay involved and informed about their child's progress and any current topics or guidance that may be helpful. This content is sent to parents when appropriate via Tapestry our online learning journal or email.

Internet Safety

We believe that teaching children from a very young age to be safe online is very important growing up in the digital age that they are. We incorporate age-appropriate activities in to our curriculum but would also urge parents to access the following website that has lots of useful information on how to monitor this subject in the home environment. https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/access-to-technology-for-different-ages/

Starting Reception

At Sunflowers Pre-School we support our children to gain the skills and knowledge needed to access their surroundings with enjoyment and interest but also for their future success and wellbeing. Being 'school ready' is about them being equipped with such skills for their next challenge. Please follow this link to a fantastic new resource created by early years professionals for parents and carers. It outlines ways that you can help your child at home. https://startingreception.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Starting-Reception.pdf?

Speech and Language

Communication and Language is a prime area of young children's learning and underpins all of the other areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We will support you and your child should there be any concerns regarding this and help signpost you to any further professionals should we feel that would be of benefit to your child. The following website has more information on the importance of speech and language and useful tips for you at home. https://speechandlanguage.org.uk/
